Alternative treatment options
Alternative treatment options include fish oil supplements, aloe extract, Oregon grape (or barberry), and essential oils. The National Psoriasis Foundation (www.psoriasis.org) recommends natural and alternative treatment for some Plaque Psoriasis patients (these forms of treatment will not work for everyone). In addition to the previously mentioned treatments, the following are suggested: massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, apple cider vinegar, Capsaicin (an ingredient in chili peppers), Dead Sea salts, oats (for example in the form of a paste or in a bath), tea tree oil, and turmeric. It is important to note that alternative treatment options are not backed by scientific evidence in the same manner as traditional medicine and you should always consult with a medical professional before attempting to treat your Plaque Psoriasis with an alternative treatment option yourself.
Other suggestions by the Nationaal Psoriasis Foundation include homeopathy, yoga, naturopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, and Ayurveda (Indian medicine integrating the mind, body, and spirit that has been developed over thousands of years).
Sufferers may also be considered for surgery in some cases where other treatments fail.
